Spirit of '45

from by Newmatica

The beginning of the "life at war" section of the album previewed by March to Meet the Sea; this whole second half of the record contains songs that have some level of inspiration from World War II. The first, Spirit of '45 references the decision to drop "the bomb" and that decision's lasting effects on life in the world to the present day.

Say all the things that I want to hear
To paint all my dreams in you

Say all the things that I want to hear
So hopes can choke thoughts
With the hands that will hand me peace

See all the hope that falls from the sky
To explode all our fears away

I never wanted for things to turn out like this
I only wanted for things to end as quick as
Heat melts your life away

Tear down the walls that keep us apart
Set free all the lies that in time will erode us away

It's one flash of light to save all their lives
Blinded by sight of the sound

I never wanted for things to turn out like this
I only wanted to save you for your wife and kids
(This box) can't be closed again
Time will reopen the wounds that hurt us all so bad

Please don't you do this
It will all be over soon enough
They're on their last leg to stand on

It will change everything
Make life a constant state of fear
Of what we could do again

Don't forget me
Or what I have died for
Hope that this life
Is set free without war
